Kapitan (ang. Capitanian)
- w sensie geochronologicznym – trzeci wiek gwadalupu (perm), trwający około 5 milionów lat (od 265,8 ± 0,7 do 260,4 ± 0,7 mln lat temu). Kapitan jest młodszy od wordu a starszy od wucziapingu.
- w sensie chronostratygraficznym – trzecie piętro gwadalupu, leżące powyżej wordu a poniżej wucziapingu. Stratotyp dolnej granicy kapitanu znajduje się na Nipple Hill w Guadalupe Mountains (Teksas, USA}. Dolna granica oparta jest na pierwszym pojawieniu się konodonta Jinogondolella postserrata.
Nazwa pochodzi od góry El Capitan w Guadalupe Mountains.
