     However, if we reflect on that time from a broader historical perspective today, it is obvious that objectively the Committee on Literature was essentially a reactionary measure by the government to try to adhere rigidly to the old ways characteristic of Japan in opposition to the nineteenth-century ideology of purposefully exposing the reality of society without pretense.

     Even though society at large is already practicing constitutionalism, there are many people who are still rigidly adhering to a feudal system in their homes.
