Etymology

Prefixed with προ- (pro-, “in front”), with the second element continuing a Proto-Indo-European *seyHk- (“stretch forth the hand”), whence also ἵκω (híkō, “to come, reach”) and Lithuanian síekti, síekiu (“to reach out”), hence originally “reaching out (of the hand), presentation”.[1]
