Systematyka
Etymologia
- Simalia: J.E. Gray nie wyjaśnił etymologii nazwy rodzajowej.
- Hypaspistes: gr. ὑπο hupo „nieco, trochę”; ασπιστης aspistēs „uzbrojony w tarczę”. Gatunek typowy: Hypaspistes dipsadides Ogilby, 1891 (= Boa amethistina Schneider, 1801).
- Australiasis: Australia; rodzaj Liasis J.E. Gray, 1842. Gatunek typowy: Boa amethistina Schneider, 1801.
- Nyctophilopython: Gr. νυξ nux, νυκτος nuktos „noc”; φιλος philos „kochający”, od φιλεω phileō „kochać”; rodzaj Python Daudin, 1803. Gatunek typowy: Python oenpelliensis Gow, 1977.
