Rodzaj obejmuje gatunki występujące w Afryce Subsaharyjskiej i południowej Azji.

Morfologia

Długość ciała 16–18 cm; masa ciała 14–20 g.

Systematyka

Etymologia

Schoenicola (Schaenicola): łac. schoenus „sitowie, trzcina”, od gr. σχοινος skhoinos „trzcina, sitowie”; -cola – „mieszkaniec”, od colere „mieszkać”.
Chaetornis: gr. χαιτη khaitē „długie włosy”; ορνις ornis, ορνιθος ornithos „ptak”. Gatunek typowy: Megalurus? striatus Jerdon, 1841.
Catriscus: zdrobnienie gr. κατρευς katreus „nieznany ptak” wspomniany przez Aelianusa, identyfikowany przez Cabanisa jako paw. Gatunek typowy: Catriscus apicalis Cabanis, 1851 (= Bradypterus brevirostris Sundevall, 1850).
