Ocean Indyjski, Ocean Spokojny i zachodni Ocean Atlantycki. Rhynchoconger trewavasae jest endemitem Morza Czerwonego.

Rodzaj opisany przez Davida Starra Jordana i Carla Leavitta Hubbsa w 1925. Gatunkiem typowym jest Leptocephalus ectenurus (=R. ectenurus).
