Etymologia

  • Hypsirhynchus: gr. ὑψι hupsi „wysoko, w górze”; ῥυγχος rhunkhos „pysk, ryj”.
  • Ocyophis: gr. ωκυς ōkus „chyży, szybki”; οφις ophis, οφεως opheōs „wąż”. Gatunek typowy: Natrix atra Gosse, 1851.
  • Antillophis: Antyle (hiszp. Antillas, ang. Antilles, niderl. Antillen), grupa wysp na Morzu Karaibskim; οφις ophis, οφεως opheōs „wąż”. Gatunek typowy: Dromicus parvifrons Cope, 1862.
  • Schwartzophis: Albert Schwartz (1923–1992), amerykański herpetolog, teriolog, ornitolog i lepidopterolog; οφις ophis, οφεως opheōs „wąż”. Gatunek typowy: Arrhyton callilaemum Gosse, 1851.
