Zasięg występowania

Rodzaj obejmuje gatunki występujące w Panamie, Kolumbii i Ekwadorze.

Echinosaura: gr. έχίνος ekhinos „jeż”; σαυρος sauros „jaszczurka”.
Teuchocercus: gr. τευχος teukhos „zbroja, oręż”; κερκος kerkos „ogon”. Gatunek typowy: Teuchocercus keyi Fritts & Smith, 1969.
