Japhug

Etymology

Cognate with Tshobdun tɐ́ŋɐ (“sun”).[1] Sometimes thought to be related to Tibetan ཉི་མ (nyi ma, “sun; day”), Burmese နေ (ne, “sun”) (hence from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *s-nəj (“sun, day”)),[2] but Guillaume Jacques disputes this and instead proposes that it is related to qarŋe (“to be yellow”).[3]
