1. (cardinal number, only in compounds with hai (“two”) to chín (“nine”)) -ty

2. (colloquial) some ten; about ten

• These two points are applied only when mươi is followed by another numeral:
  • Mươi is very often ellipsed in colloquial speech, so ba mốt (“thirty-one”) and tám sáu (“eighty-six”) are generally more common than the full forms ba "mươi" mốt and tám "mươi" sáu in the daily language.
  • For hai mươi (“twenty”) and ba mươi (“thirty”) specifically, the constracted forms hăm and băm, where mươi is reduced to /m/, are also common, therefore hăm bảy (“twenty-seven”), băm ba (“thirty-three”).
• However, the decade numerals themselves never undergo any ellipsis or reduction, so hai mươi (“twenty”) when used on itself remains unchanged, never *hăm.
