Etymology

Inherited from Ottoman Turkish كوپورمك (köpürmek, “to froth”), from Proto-Turkic *köpür- (“to foam”), a development of *köp- (“to swell”). Cognate with Old Turkic [script needed] (köpür-), Southern Altai кӧбӱр- (köbür-, “to foam”), etc.
