Etymology

Related to Turkish gıcırtı (“the sound of rubbing hard objects together”). Cognate with Turkmen gyjyrdamak, Kyrgyz кыйчылдоо (kıyçıldoo), Uzbek gʻichilamoq, Uyghur غۇچۇرلىماق‎ (ghuchurlimaq), perhaps also Tuvan кижиир (kijiir, “to itch”). See also Turkish gıcık.
