Etymology

From Ottoman Turkish دیز چوكمك (diz çökmek, “to kneel down”),[1] from دیز (diz, “knee”) and چوكمك (çökmek, “to collapse, to kneel or crouch down”), equivalent to diz +‎ çökmek. Cognates with Azerbaijani diz çökmək, Uzbek tiz choʻkmoq.
