-ঈ • (-i)

1. (in nouns) one from, belonging to, relating to, or like
2. (in adjectives) coming from, related to, like

   ‎পাকিস্তান (pakistan, “Pakistan”) + ‎-ঈ (-i) → ‎পাকিস্তানী (pakistani, “Pakistani”, adjective)

• -উৱা (-ua)
• -আ (-a)
• -ঈয় (-io)
• -ঈয়া (-ia)
• -আন (-an)
• -ইছ (-is)

• For the relational suffix, borrowed from Sanskrit -ई (-ī), from Proto-Indo-European *-iHyos.
• For the possessive suffix, borrowed from Sanskrit -ई (-ī), from Proto-Indo-European *-inos.
• For the feminine suffix, borrowed from Sanskrit -ई (-ī), from Proto-Indo-European *-ih₂.

The first two uses were also influenced by the unrelated Classical Persian ـی (-ī) and Arabic ـِيّ (-iyy).

-ঈ • (-i)

1. forms nouns and adjectives implying relation or association

   ‎লন্ডন (lonḍon, “London”) + ‎-ঈ (-i) → ‎লন্ডনী (lonḍoni, “Londoner”, noun)

   ‎বাংলাদেশ (baṅladeś, “Bangladesh”) + ‎-ঈ (-i) → ‎বাংলাদেশী (baṅladeśi, “Bangladeshi”, adjective)

2. forms nouns and adjectives indicating possession of or having a property or quality

   ‎দরকার (dorkar, “necessity”) + ‎-ঈ (-i) → ‎দরকারী (dorkari, “necessary”)

   ‎প্রাণ (pran, “life”) + ‎-ঈ (-i) → ‎প্রাণী (prani, “animal”)

3. forms feminine nouns and adjectives

   ‎কাল (kal, “dark-skinned”) + ‎-ঈ (-i) → ‎কালী (kali, “Kali (a goddess represented with dark skin)”)

   ‎সুন্দর (śundor, “beautiful”) + ‎-ঈ (-i) → ‎সুন্দরী (śundori, “beautiful (female)”)
