1. (past-tense suffix) Forms the second-person singular past tense of verbs (indefinite conjugation).

   ‎köszönt (“to greet”) + ‎-öttél → ‎köszöntöttél (“you (have/had) greeted”)

   Mindig udvariasan köszöntöttél engem. ― You always greeted me politely.

   ‎süt (“to bake”) + ‎-öttél → ‎sütöttél (“you (have/had) baked”)

   Mikor sütöttél kenyeret utoljára? ― When was the last time you baked bread?

• (past tense suffix) Variants:

  -tál is added to most back-vowel verbs

  -tél is added to most front-vowel verbs

  -ttál is added to back-vowel verbs ending in a vowel (hí, fú, ó, ró, rí, szí)
