Etymology

From Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (hwltk' /⁠xwurdag⁠/, “something small, particle”), from [script needed] (hwlt' /⁠xwurd⁠/, “small, little”), thus equivalent to خرد (xord) +‎ ـه (-e). Compare Old Armenian խորտակեմ (xortakem), an Iranian borrowing.
