Etymology

From Proto-Indo-European *gʷḗn. The genitive-dative plural կանանց (kanancʻ) is probably analogical after այր (ayr) : արանց (arancʻ). For the ending of կնոջ (knoǰ) see -ոջ (-oǰ). The plural կանայք (kanaykʻ) is often paralleled with Ancient Greek γυναικ- (gunaik-). For a discussion of the Armenian paradigm and the Greek parallel see the literature.[1][2][3][4][5]
