From *yag-du (“light, bright”), from Proto-Turkic *yak- (“to burn; produce fire”).[1]

Cognate with Tatar якты (yaktı, “light”), Uzbek yogʻdu (“light”), Turkmen ýagty (“light, bright”), Chuvash ҫутӑ (śut̬ă, “light, bright”).
