Etymology
According to Frisk, from φρίσσω (phríssō, “to be rough or bristly on the surface”). However, Furnée compares βρίκελοι (bríkeloi, “beams of a standing loom”), suggesting a Pre-Greek origin. Probably related also to φόρκες (phórkes, “pales”).
