Inherited from Byzantine Greek λίγος (lígos), form of ὀλίγος (olígos) from the ancient Ancient Greek ὀλίγος (olígos), with omission of ⟨ο⟩, perceived as an article (ὁ).[1] Also see ολίγος (olígos).
