Etymology

From Ottoman Turkish ایلیمق (ılımak, “to grow lukewarm”), from Proto-Turkic *yïlï- (“to be warm”).

Cognate with Old Turkic [script needed] (yılı-, “to warm up”), Southern Altai јылыыр (ǰïlïïr), Turkmen ýylamak (“to warm up”), Uzbek ilimoq (“to warm up”).

Verb

ılımak (third-person singular simple present ılır)

  1. (intransitive) to get slightly warm, warm up a bit; to get lukewarm, get tepid
