From Ottoman Turkish چلدرتمق (çıldırtmak, “to make or let go mad”), causative of چلدرمق (çıldırmak, “to go mad”). Equivalent to çıldır- (“to go crazy”) + -t- (“causative suffix”) + -mak (“infinitive suffix”).
